The school was founded in 1934, when the name Hunan Medical College in 1960, changed to ordinary higher undergraduate colleges Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Currently, the school offers 21 undergraduate majors, belonging to medicine, science, engineering, management science
It has entered a brand-new phase of speedy development. It has a competent staff including many prominent experts with national fames on medical education. The school is well established in two bachelor majors: Clinical Medicine (for 1+5 = 6 years schooling), Medical Laboratory Science.The school has developed a competitive disciplinary style and its own brilliant features in different dimensions of its construction
It has key State-level laboratories, Education Ministry laboratories, Education Ministry humanities and social sciences research bases, and an Education Ministry approved engineering research center, giving it a solid academic and scientific research foundation.
It also handles important national 973 Projects, national 863 Projects, and projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Social Science Foundation, won 16 awards.
